You collected all the oral information from your relatives on your genealogical work, sorted out your family albums and old photos, reread all the available Internet sources, and even compiled a genealogical tree. But revising the collected material once again you got a bunch of spaces and question marks, the answers to which you can not find anywhere else. Then you should go to the archives.
Archive – an institution that provides storage and examination of documents. Documents are archived in an orderly manner. Either by themselves, or stitched into a “case,” they represent a storage unit. Storage units are pooled into funds — most often by fundmaker.
The archive can be addressed in two ways:
Submit a request to the archive about relatives
You can turn to individuals who are specialized in this, of course by paying them a certain amount, and protecting themselves from bureaucratic processes. You can also do everything yourself by filling out the official form, of course the form itself depends on the country in which archives you are going to make a request. First of all, it should be established which of the city archives or registry offices should carry their application on the topic of search. Where to go – to the central archive or its local unit? An object is selected for such purposes, depending on the task that you set for yourself. This may be getting some information or restoring any documents.
The time factor is also important – how long has the event of interest (death, birth, marriage) occurred?
Archive documents
Appearing in the archive, you will need to submit an application to the head in which you formulate the topic of your research. A case will be brought up to you, the rules for working with documents will be explained under the signature.
Having chosen the funds you need, you, having requested their inventory, look for the necessary documents in them – storage units – and write down their numbers and names in the “requirement”. And get documents for work. What documents should you choose? Choose metric books, revision tales and confessional statements. The course of their work in the archive must be properly drawn up. When you start working with a document, you must write down its cipher. Approach the work in the archive creatively and then the process itself wakes up the most interesting and brings you a lot of pleasure.
Good luck in finding.
